De Tai Tong Cafe is a Cantonese-style restaurant along Cintra Street, in George Town, Penang. The restaurant is famous for Chinese-style dishes as well as noodle dishes such as Sar Hor Fun and Yee Foo Mee. In the evening, De Tai Tong also serves dim sum. Chinese tea is the default beverage served here. If you are planning to have your dinner here, you should come early in the evening, as most tables are usually taken by dinner time.

E-Fu Noodles is a classic dish

Flaky Chinese pastries filled with sweet lotus paste, a popular dim sum dish.

Tai Tong Dim Sum was one of my most favourite place to eat during dinner hours when we were around town. A short walk away from Prangin Mall/Komtar, this might be one of the very few places that serve dim sum not only for breakfast, but for dinner as well.

Dim sum is breakfast and dinner fare at De Tai Tong. It is one of the places in town with trolley service.

This is a traditional Chinese Yum Cha restaurant, nothing fancy, just concrete floor and plastic chairs. Come in, sit down, order your drink (we ordered a pot of Chinese tea), and wait. Eventually an old lady comes around pushing a trolley, and you just point to what you want. In case you are new to this, dim sums are chinese dumplings, and very yummy. Don’t worry, they will tell you what’s in them, usually pork, prawn, chicken vegetable etc. There is another old lady comes around with the desert trolley. We didn’t try these because we already pigged out on the dim sums.

There are plenty of options to choose from the steamed items. There are siew mai (pork dumpling), har gau (prawn dumpling), black beans pork rib, fish balls, seaweed dumpling, glutinous rice in lotus leaf, all served in metal trays. All the dumplings are plump with ingredients.

Loh Mai Kai - Fill up with glutinous rice and press down with a ladle. Steam for 30-40 minutes. Turn over the rice bowl onto a plate and serve Loh Mai Kai with chilli sauce. If you're looking for a dish that works as breakfast, lunch, dinner or even an afternoon snack, look no further than lo mai kai.The main ingredients of lo mai kai are those which make up its name - glutinous rice with chicken.

We were served by cheerful grannies, they just kept introducing us different types of food and praising how the good the food is! I love their friendliness and hospitality!
Dim sum is available from 6am till 12pm, and ala carte menu from 12pm till 3pm. Dinner starts from 6.30pm till 11pm. The outlet is open daily and closed on every alternate Mondays.
