Lunch time everywhere crowded. One of the best Hokkien Mee that we have been hunting for the past few months which is located on Jalan Mayang Pasir near to Sunshine Square which is one of a famous hokkien mee (prawn noodle) stall among the locals, located at the corner.
There are many kind of food to offer at the corner coffee shop that host many hakwer stalls . Why is it one of my favorite is definitely because of the soup base, its sweet and aromatic with prawn taste.

If you are around the neighbourhood do drop by and enjoy a bowl of hokkien mee.

Yungang Grottoes, Datong China

The Yungang Grottoes are excellent examples of Buddhist cave art, dating from the 5th and 6th centuries. They are located near the city of Datong in the Chinese province of Shanxi. The site stretches about 1 kilometer from east to west, and holds 53 caves with 51,000 statues.
Yungang is a relic of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) of the nomadic Toba people. They recruited 3,000 monks from along the Silk Route to turn Buddhism into their state religion.

The caves can be divided into 3 phases:
1 - Caves 16-20 (Five Caves of Tan Yao, where the Wei-rulers were depicted as living Buddhas). Caves 16-20 are the earliest at Yungang.
2 - Caves 1, 2, 3, 5-13 (more varied and Chinese in concept).
3 - Caves 4, 14, 15, 20 and the rest (smaller caves).
During these phases, the 'foreign' Indian Buddhism turned into a Chinese folk religion.

The seated Buddha of Cave 20 is either Amitabha (based on his hands-together meditation posture) or Shakyamuni (based on the idea that this cave represents the Three Buddhas of the Past, Present, and Future).

In 494, the Wei moved their capital from Datong to Luoyang and the Yungang Grottoes slowly fell into decay. The caves used to be protected by wooden temple buildings, but most of them burnt down. Many of the artwork was stolen in the early 20th century and now resides in museums and private collections around the world.

The Yungang Grottoes, known as Wuzhoushan Grottoes in ancient times, are located on the southern foot of the Wuzhou Mountains, in the Shi Li River valley, 16 km west of Datong City. They consist of 252 caves of various sizes housing more than 51,000 statues; the site extends much as 1 km east-west. Three main periods can be identified in the construction: the Early Period (460-65), the Middle Period (c . 471-94) and the Late Period (494-525). Apart from the grottoes, the nominated core area includes the remains of a castle, a defence wall, and a beacon tower of the Ming dynasty on the plain above the grottoes.

The grottoes of the early period (460-65) are composed of five main caves; these magnificent and simple caves were dug under the direction of the monk Tan Yao and are named after him. For the layout of the grottoes, large caves were dug to house the giant statues, 13-15m tall. They have a U-shaped plan and arched roofs, imitating the thatched sheds in ancient India. Each cave has a door and a window. The central images have tall bodies and occupy the major part of the caves, while on the outer walls 1,000 Buddhist statues are carved, a feature rarely seen in the tradition of Chinese history of grotto carving.

The 14m-tall seated Buddha of Cave 20 is an icon of Chinese art, comparable to the colossal exposed Buddhas of Dunhuang and Longmen. It was originally flanked by a pair of smaller standing buddhas, of which only the eastern figure now remains.

It is is one of China's biggest grottoes with world-famous treasure-collection of arts and culture

World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 2001, Yungang Grottoes represent the excellent achievement of Buddhist sculptural art of ancient China, and it is the largest among the four most famous ancient grotto complexes in China

Most people around the world are familiar with Chinese egg rolls, and in recent years Cantonese and Thai spring rolls have become popular as well. Gỏi cuốn ( Vietnamese fresh spring rolls ) is a popular snack food in Vietnam and is usually ordered as an appetizer in Vietnamese restaurants stateside.
It is comprised of tightly wrapped rice paper bundles filled with pork, shrimp, vermicelli noodles, herbs, and greens. A Hoisin-based sauce topped with crushed peanuts is often served on the side for dipping. The flavors and textures present in this dish are fresh, snappy, and satisfying.

Summer Rolls are a Vietnamese creation that ties in ingredients common to many countries in Asia. They're delicious anytime of year but because they are not fried, unlike Shanghai spring rolls, they are particularly nice during the summer.

The most distinctive feature of summer rolls is that they are not wrapped in wheat dough like egg or spring rolls, but actually are wrapped in a special kind of rice paper.

Dip the Goi Cuon into the fish sauce mixture
Delicious and healthy spring rolls.

They can be made ahead of time and make great picnic fare. Serve them with either peanut sauce or Nuoc Cham, the classic Vietnamese dipping sauce, which these days you can buy in any well-stocked supermarket or grocery.

Bun thit nuong is a simple meal from Vietnam consisting of cold rice vermicelli mixed with fresh vegetables and topped with hot barbecued pork.

The dish is dressed in a nước chấm sauce ( is a common name for a variety of Vietnamese "dipping sauces" that are served quite frequently as condiments. It is commonly a sweet, sour, salty .Also, the dish often includes roasted peanuts, Vietnamese pickled carrots.

Thịt nướng litererally means baked or barbecued meat and in this case it’s traditionally barbecued, and the meat is always pork. Bún means noodles, and for this dish it’s a rice vermicelli noodle which is sold in small packages as dried rice sticks. The presentation style of bún thịt nướng i- It’s usually eaten by mixing everything including the nước chấm. I like to keep the dipping sauce separate though, so there isn’t a slick of the sauce on everything. It helps to control the amount of sauce per bite too.

Bánh Flan one of the most popular desserts in Vietnam.

The dessert is served with cold black coffee that gives an aromatic sweet caramel and distinctive coffee aroma.

Do you love Vietnamese food?
Generally speaking, Vietnamese food sustains a balance between sweet and salty. I like to believe this equilibrium represents the reality of life, recognizing that daily existence contains both of these elements. Or, perhaps it is related to a type of yin and yang as Vietnamese culture has been heavily influenced by the Chinese over the centuries. Vegetables are not only fresh, but often dishes will contain raw veggies. I love the way it tastes and the way it looks. But also, let's be honest, I love the fact that its calorie count is so measly.

Located on the corner, hard to miss. The food is fresh and most people order the above. If you're downtown and you love Vietnamese food, you gotta try this place before you pick a favorite. Definitely my #1 place downtown.

Glad I found this place to get a fresh and filling meal before adventuring back out there.

This place looks way smaller from outside but is surprisingly spacious! From the start I was excited because our server was friendly and enthusiastic.

We waited for nearly 25 minutes for our Mango cup to arrive. But is worth waiting. It will be great to have free WI-FI so we won't feel bored while waiting for the food to be serve.

Mango Cup - Crepe cup filled with fresh mango cubes and 2 scoop of mango icecream. RM 15

A little more on the pricey side but a good choice if you want something a little different. Crepes are definitely the best around and they have a ton to choose from. Can't wait to go back to this place to experience another one of the wonderful crepes!

Do you love Chinese food? We always think of chinese food even though we are in a foreign country. But would you get a delicious chinese food overseas? Yes you need to go to Chin Chin Wok and Grill, in Madrid to enjoy their chinese cuisine.  It is one of the most popular ethnic cuisine choices out there.

What is traditional Chinese cuisines? It is as varied as the country is big. Every region has its own specialty dishes that make it unique and different from the others.

When you sit down to a meal of traditional Chinese food, you would be given chopsticks and an individual bowl of noodles or rice. The rest of the food dishes would be placed in the center of the table and shared.

Really impressed with Chin Chin deco- this is the most authentic Chinese food. The decor, presentation, and food reminded me of many of the modern upscale restaurants you can find in Beijing and Shanghai. The decor is gorgeous and the menu is like a work of art.

Solar Energy in Spain Part 1

13.1.2015
During the stop over of our bus tour we discovered the stunning and unique layout of the solar energy plantation. Throughout the the bus ride we have seen a wide range of architecture of the city’s that we pass through. We have no idea where the exact location is however we were very happy to admire the beauty of it.

So now we need to know a little bit about Solar Energy.

Solar energy has been in used by various ancient civilization since the beginning of human civilizations. Some ancient buildings were build based on the availability of solar energy to provide sunlight. However, the person who came up with the idea of using solar power to create electrical energy was Alexandre Edmond Becquerel. This is why the discovery of solar energy, as we know it today, is credited to this French scientist.

His father was a renowned French scientist
He was born on March 24th, 1820 in Pairs, France. He was the son of Antoine César Becquerel, another renowned French scientist. Edmond Becquerel followed the footstep of his father and continued his work and research. His main interests were on electricity, magnetism, optics and solar spectrum. He joined as a professor at the Agronomic Institute in Versailles in 1849. He received the chair of physics at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers in 1853.

Alexandre Edmond Becquerel built the world’s first photovoltaic panel at the young age of 19 and that was in the year of 1839.

He invented the phosphoroscope
He had an active interest in the study of light. He researched on phosphorescence, photochemical effects, the electric light and solar radiation. He was the first scientist to research these topics extensively. He invented the phosphoroscope, a device which allowed periods between exposure to a light source and the observation of the resulted affects.

He published two volumes of works
During 1867-1868, he published two volumes of works named “La Lumière, ses causes et ses effets”. He also researched and published papers on various topics on electronics including paramagnetic and diamagnetic properties of substances and Faraday’s law of electrolysis. In 1886, he was officially made a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He died on May 11th, 1891.

No, eventually the Sun will get bigger and hotter as it use up its supply of hydrogen. Eventually, the Sun will collapse under its own weight and in all likelihood destroy Earth and Venus. However, this won’t be happening for another 5 billion years or so, which means that there is no reason why solar energy can’t be used for now. This is especially true since the Sun produces a huge amount of energy, about 400 trillion trillion watts! Every second, the Sun produces the same amount of energy as about a trillion 1 megaton bombs. If we could harnest the energy that the Sun produces in a second, it will be enough to meet our current energy usage for 500,000 years. Clearly, the Sun produces more than enough to meet our energy requirement.

A hot latte

Well solar panels  don't work at night, because there are no sunlight to be power it. At the meantime enjoy the beauty of it with a cup of hot latte.

I have been to this place many times. The young smart handsome chef is ever ready to fry my mee goreng. He was busy dishing out plates after plates of fried/braised noodles. I asked and found out that the the young chap is a second or third-generation chef , since CRC Mee Goreng has been operating for decades.

Add those green chilli its so good

They offer 2 types of special dishes - the Mee Goreng: fried noodles, Indian-style. - ingredients consist of mutton/octopus,vegetable fritters, boiled potatoes, egg, tomatoes & tofu cubes, all fried together. Non-spicy or spicy are available.  A squeeze of lime is added to enhance the taste. The other noodle dish is the Mee Rebus, same ingredients used and the noodles are par-boiled instead of being fried if you love it soupy.

Where is Sea Pearl Lagoon Cafe? If you know where is famous Tua Pek Kong Temple in Tanjung Tokong, it just next to it. I love to go around 6pm and enjoy the sea view and the sea breeze out there.
The seafood is cooked in very simple method, with their signature dish of coal-baked crabs. It’s the method of preparation which is just a simple baking procedure over hot coals. The sweetness of the crab’s flesh and the smoky undertone of its flavor is unlike any other I’ve tasted.

How to not love this crab roe, my favourite

Baked Prawn (RM18 half kilo), Deep Fried Calamari (RM12), Stir Fried Lala, Chicken Satay, Coconut Drink, Deep Fried Baby Chicken, Grilled Stingray, Hokkien Char Noodles (RM12), Fried Oysters (RM12), Meat Crab (RM45 per KG)
Must try the satay - The taste was very authentic with the grilling done over charcoal fire. Yummy

La la clams are a type of bamboo clams that are very popular with seafood lovers in Malaysia
Stir Fried Lala, was very fresh and delicious.

A beautiful sea view out there...

When pairing beer with seafood it is best said to remember the basics and ask your self simple questions such as:How does this beer complement the flavor of this food? How well do the flavors incorporate with each other?
Try it yourself.....

All the food was just simply delicious. This is one place for great seafood and a combination of other food.

Palacio Real de Madrid, Real Madrid

25.1.2015
The Palacio Real, or Royal Palace, is Madrid's largest building and possibly its most beautiful. It is located next to the equally beautiful Plaza de Oriente square.

It may come as surpirse to our readers to learn that Madrid's Royal Palace is the largest royal palace in Western Europe. It was built on the site of the old Alcázar, the Moorish castle destroyed by fire in 1734, but the site has been occupied since the 10th century by the Moors, who having named the city's Manzanares river al-Magrit ("source of water"), referred to the area as Mayrit which became Magerit, then Madrid. The old city walls around this area may still be seen.

The palace was initially designed by Filippo Juvarra to accommodate the court of Felipe V, a total of more than 3000 courtiers. Juan Bautista Sacchetti initiated the building project in 1737 and Francisco Sabatini and Ventura Rodríguez terminated the works. It is surrounded by the beautiful Sabatini and Campo del Moro parks.

The palace itself contains furniture, tapestries, paintings and ceramics as well as other important works of art and frescos by Tiépolo. Velázquez, Goya, Giordano and Mengs are all represented here amongst the dozens of valuable tapestries and paintings, making the palace one of Europe's most important museums and receiving more than 880,000 visitors in 2006.

It remains open to the public almost year round except on the days of official ceremonies and receptions, although the public can only access certain areas. It is located on Bailén street, and the nearest Metro station is Opera.

Opening hours are as follows:-
- October to March: Monday to Saturday from 9,30am to 5pm, Sundays and holidays, 9am to 2pm
- April to September: Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm, Sundays and holidays, 9am to 3pm
- Closed for official acts, 1st & 6th January, 1st & 15th May, 12th October, 9th November and 25th December.
Entrance to this monument is free with the Madrid Card.

It is possible to take a guided tour of this magnificent monument.

The palace gardens, called the Campo del Moro, are also worth visiting, as is the square nearby. The Plaza de Oriente takes its name from its location - to the east of the palace, and contains several sculptures of the precious Spanish monarchs. Just across this beautiful plaza stands the Royal Theatre.

How to Renew your Malaysian Passport in Penang, Malaysia

29.1.2015
Today I went to Immigration Office in Penang (Georgetown) to renew my passport as it will expire on the 7th October 2015.
Arrive at 8:50am looked for carpark very difficult to find. Eventually have to park at Multi-Storey next to Maybank which is 6 storey , you must park at 5th or 6th level as the rest of the carparks are reserved. Took about 3 minutes to walk to the immigration department.

So happy no one

At 9:06am - Took the number from the counter. I was given number 1129 when they are serving number 1051. Which means 1000 over applicants were ahead of me. No wonder when I reached there at 9am no one at the entrance. I was late. After receiving the number I was thinking of going for breakfast but on another hand I was afraid that I might miss my turn. When they were serving number 1069 I decided to go for breakfast ( stomach growling ) as I calculated that it will take another hour before my turn. So I went for Nasi Lemak breakfast.
Still very crowded after my return from breakfast  estimate 10:35am
Finally at 11:05am they called my number to Counter 2. I am very happy to rush to the counter and shocked to hear that I need to remove my contact lenses. Gosh I do not have my contact lenses solution and case with me. Oh what must I do! Hmmm... I have to think fast, took out my tissue paper , stood at the counter and took out my contact lenses and wrapped them up in the tissue paper. You can go to the toilet to wear back your contact lenses if you need a mirror. ( Go outside the building and turn right ) After that , I had to wear the black coat and sat down with a "SMILE"- for the photo to be taken. Even though you have your own photo it cannot be used. They will take your photo- FOC ( free of charge). They need thumb print.
*** Remember those who wear contact lenses, bring along your contact lenses solution and case with you.

Notice the Black Coat and the seat and the camera. Just sit and smile.

After that wait for your NAME  to be call. Once my name was called I need to go to Counter 6 to pay RM 200. See the receipt above they will give you a time to come back for collection. I need to come back at 12:15pm, I still have 1 hour to wait. This gave me the opportunity to spend my time in Kopitan Classic Beach Street. They have free wifi and free portable power bank charger for you to charge your phone. Cool!
Go to the front counter again to collect my new number. I was given number 2135 at 12:15pm. Once you collect the number go to counter 8 and drop your receipt into a box. Wait for your number to be call again.
They have served 2132, so 3 more people and I will collect my new passport. I only need to wait for 6 minutes. Tick Tock Tick Tock , I was given a new passport. So happy 5 years extension will see ya in July 2020.  My old passport validity was October 2015. ( however I applied earlier for extension I have lost 4 months of validity). Total process starting from 9:06am - 12:25pm. Just nice, time to go for lunch.

Do you love Newspaper Template. I do but each time when I installed the newspaper template my blog page is blank. Nothing seems to appear on my blog.
After searching and learning from others out there, I need to add label in each post , all posts need a label to show up, if you don't add a label in your posts it will not be shown. Fill all your layout with labels to make the template running in good condition. Here is how to add a label.

In Blogger, “labels” are very important to help categorize the content.  The labels appear at the bottom of your posts and are linked to a search label page in Blogger.

For example : PENANG 檳城 - my label -

That is my label:
http://www.cquek.com/search/label/Penang%20%5B%檳城%5D

Go to your template - Configure HTML/JavaScript and Click edit

Copy the code below and paste on the HTML/JavaScript and click save.
 Penang%20%5B%檳城%5D
You will see your post on your new template.

Below are a few beautiful newspaper/magazine template to download.

If you like my template , we are using Johny Kenthir, Template Ramai Seperti Pasar Tradisional- you can check out the tutorial.

Do you love to buy souvenirs while you're abroad. For me is a must. There are many types of souvenirs that have practical worth and can be used regularly. My favourite collections are fridge magnets.

When we buy stuff from souvenir shops it may help us with specific memories of the places. There are also often sculptures available of figures with historical or religious significance to the region you are visiting.

Many of us including myself have a bad habit of buying a lot of souvenirs and eventually they were unused, unpacked, unworn and stuffed in the drawers or cupboards and never to be seen again.  So to bring home souvenir we need to ensure that they are of interest to ourselves so they will not go be thrown away.

Depending on your preferences, you can find souvenirs that fit your lifestyle and will bring back fond memories of your trip for years to come.

Regardless of the season, pumpkin are always a versatile, healthy option for a colorful, filling meal. My mom always ask me to have breakfast. Why? Because is the most important meal of the day. Not only does it give us energy to start a new day, but breakfast is linked to many health benefits, including weight control and improved performance.
Talk about my breakfast : Potatoes, heart-healthy olive oil, pumpkins , and some protein-rich eggs (optional) offer up a filling, well-balanced morning meal.

These wraps are stuffed with lettuce (and wrapped in ‘em) with fried garlic.  Perfect for a light breakfast.

My favourite Original Wraps. Their full 10” diameter gives you come up with your own recipes.
Meanwhile, cook potato and pumpkin in a large saucepan of boiling, salted water for 10 minutes or until tender. Drain. Return to pan. Add garlic. Mash until almost smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Stir to combine. Um, YES must add in the Sesame Sauce picture below.

Regardless of when you eat it, this potato and pumpkin mash is so sinfully good.
